Health benefits of lemons

Lemons have been used as an herbal remedy for hundreds of years. That is due to the numerous health benefits of lemons. They are also great for flavor.

Some of the terrific health benefits of lemon come from its high vitamin C concentrate. Vitamin C is a superb antioxidant, which is thought to reduce aging, decrease heart disease and cancer formation.

Water with a little fresh squeezed lemon is extremely good for you. It provides a natural, tasty cure for many common health issues.

One condition it relieves is sore throat. Just gargle with lemon water for one minute a few times a day.

Lemon water is also thought to be a powerful detoxifier. It works to purify kidneys, liver and blood.

Lemon water is especially curative if you drink it while it's hot or warm. Heated lemon water is great for your digestive system. It helps ease nausea, heartburn, diarrhea and constipation.

Taken first thing in the morning, it helps flush out your digestive and circulatory systems and bowels. It may rid your gut of any parasites you might be hosting down there

Drinking hot black or green tea with lemon peel reduces risk of certain types of skin cancers by up to 70 percent according to the BBC. Lemon actually helps prevent sunburn which in turn, acts to reduce skin cancer risk.

That is because the natural ingredients found in the combination of tea and lemon peel protect the body from the sun's harmful UV rays which are responsible for skin cancer. But you must drink hot tea to get those benefits.

Iced teas are not nearly as effective. That might be because the extra water from the ice dilutes the cancer-fighting ingredients in both the lemon and the tea. It might also be that the warmth in both helps your body access specific healing properties. This is not so unusual when you consider that some of the tomato’s healing properties are obtained after tomato is cooked, hot? maybe.

So, instead of grabbing that cup of coffee in the morning, try dunking a lemon peel into some hot tea or water. If you must, you could have your cup ‘o Joe 20 minutes later.

Balms made with lemon work on emotions, helping to relieve depression and anxiety.

I use lemons in several ways. I often squeeze fresh lemon onto salads that are sprinkled with olive oil. I also love to squeeze lemon juice onto chicken and fish.
