On this page we suggest using whole foods, spices, teas & juices as a natural cure for hypertension.Foods
CELERY: Used in Chinese medicine, as a natural cure for hypertension, celery has been scientifically proven to lower blood pressure. Eating 4 stalks seems to decrease HBP.
GARLIC: Not only is garlic at the top of the high blood pressure herbs, it also reduces cholesterol. A clove a day for 12 weeks does the trick.
ONION: Onion oil has been effective against HBP but it is not widely available. Add them to foods: salads, garnishes, soups, sautéed, in casseroles - onions are very versatile.
TOMATO: Contains GABA & 6 other prssure relieving substances. Use in salads, sauces, juices, tomato is one of the superior high blood pressure herbs.
BROCCOLI, CARROT & PURSLANE also contain substances shown to relieve blood pressure.
DANDELION: Spikes up salads.
Spices
TURMERIC: Especially important in Indian cuisine like curries.
Vegetable soup containing great high blood pressure herbs
James Duke, herbal researcher/author recommends eating hearty vegetable soups (Minestrone) as an antidote against HBP & various other ills such as heart disease & cancer.
A great place to start would be with vegetables and spices cited above. Add some beans, a little sea salt and even small portions of meat for flavoring, a side of crusty garlic bread with a virgin olive oil base, and you have a great meal & medicine in one.
Teas
The following teas could also be mixed and matched for variety and health benefits. Feel free to mix teas with other herbal teas such as mint, sage and other flavorful, aromatic herbs.
REISHI: Simmer for at least ½ hour.
DANDELION: Use fresh dandelions and steep to taste.
KUDZU: Another of the tea herbs for high blood pressure, make it with 8 tsps of root, in hot water. Scientifically established to lower blood pressure 15%.
HAWTHORN: Another natural cure for hypertension, dandelion tea is made using one tsp dried extract steeped in 2 cups hot water.
Juices
Juice any of the following to reduce high blood pressure. Feel free to mix & match juices to taste. I would suggest adding a bit of cold water, ice and some of the pulp for consistency, taste & health benefits. Oh, and an apple wouldn’t hurt either.
