* Oregon grapefruit has a traditional role in bladder infections. It kills many types of bacteria such as e coli. It works for UTI by preventing bacteria from sticking to the lining of the bladder. Take a tsp of tincture 3x daily and do not use during pregnancy.

* Echinacea (echinacea angustifolia) has been used as an immune system tonic for many years. It has an especially beneficial effect on immunity and so is good for fighting infections of all kinds. Better as a preventive.

Take according to manufacturer’s directions. Do not take continuously. Cycle usage, 4 weeks on, 4 weeks off.

* Dandelion is one of the best herbs for UTI because it increases urine flow (diuretic). You can take a tincture product or make a powerfully effective tea. Take 2 cups daily, steeping a tsp of dried root per cup of water for 10 - 15 minutes. Supplements can also be purchased. Use as directed.

* Goldenseal kills many kinds of infections and boosts immunity. To benefit from those specific properties, make a tea or take as a tincture. Follow directions. If taking as a tea, note that it can taste bitter so temper as is necessary adding honey and blending with cinnamon or anise.

* Billberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) contains anthocyanosides, which have powerful antioxidant properties. We have cited other berries as having excellent effects on UTI including bearberry and blueberry for much the same reasons. Eating berries may be helpful and certainly healthy but for medicinal purposes it would be best to take a concentrated supplement.

* Using Corn silk for UTI just reinforces the idea that just about everything is good for something. In case you didn’t make the connection, corn silk is the part of fresh corn, stringy, silky, that you pull away from the corn and toss out. But, a tea made from this refuse is good for the stomach lining. If you don’t want to bother with the tea form, you can get it as a supplement. Take as directed.

* Goldenrod is popular in Europe for treating bladder infections. It inhibits bacteria and increases urine flow, a two pronged attack on infections. Take 2 - 3 cups of tea daily made from steeping a tsp of dried herb per cup of hot water for 10 minutes.
