* Blueberry is highly recommended for UTI by James Duke, and that’s good enough for me. It prevents bacteria from sticking to the urinary wall. One way to get blueberry is via juice product. * Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) comes from the Eastern Mediterranean region and is common in Africa. Its important active ingredients include volatile oil, tannins, flavinoids, tocopherols and choline. Studies have pointed to its beneficial effects on health and the immune system. Take manufactured product as directed. * Goldenrod is endorsed by Germany’s Commission E and is very popular in Europe for treating urinary tract infection. It increases urine production and fights bacteria. Drink as a tea, 3 cups daily. * Parsley is a simply indispensable ingredient in my kitchen because it is a super delicious herb. I remember the old “Juiceman” commercials, Jay Kordich would yell, “next time the waiter serves you that steak with parsley garnish, toss the steak and eat the parsley.“ I say, eat both. In addition to containing many powerful nutrients, it is also a powerful diuretic. You can take commercial product. Even better, add generous amounts of fresh chopped parsley to mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs, stews and gravies. * Green oats (Avena sativa) is used in folk medicine and modern herbalism. Active ingredients include flavonoids, saponins, alkaloids, minerals and steroidal compounds, Vitamins B1, B2, D, E, carotene and wheat protein – all of which boost the immune system. * Dandelion root is another powerful diuretic. Tea made from can be a big help for urinary tract infection as could commercial product. * Uva-ursi (bearberry) is closely related to cranberry and blueberry and seems to work similarly as those other herbal remedies for UTI. Tea made from bearberry needs 24 hours steeping so might be best to take commercial product. Take capsules or tincture as directed.
