The great benefits of olive leaf extract follow below including how to choose & use olive leaf capsules & olive leaf tea.
First a few words about the olive leaf plant.
The many health benefits olive leaf extract or plant was known to the ancient world. Its first recorded use for health purposes was in the Mediterranean region and Middle East going back thousands of years. It was used, and still is, in other parts of the world to this day.
The important active ingredient in the leaves has been isolated and studied and is termed “Oleuropein.”
It is a general and effective antibiotic, anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal. It is a powerful healer able to fight viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites that lead to infection and disease.
Specifically, the benefits of olive leaf extract include:
• Cardiovascular health - The antioxidants in olive leaf help prevent hardening of the arteries, lowers bad cholesterol, improves good cholesterol, normalizes blood pressure and increases blood circulation by relaxing the arteries.
• Immunity – Olive leaf improves the body's immune system.
• Boost energy – Olive leaf increases energy without caffeine or other stimulants.
• Free radical scavenger - Free radicals in our body attack body cells and tissues, leading to a wide range of health disorders. Another of the benefits of olive leaf extract is that it's a powerful free radical scavenger, more powerful than green tea or Vitamin C.
• Antiviral - Can prevent the onset of colds and other viruses including influenza, pneumonia, sore throat, sinusitis, skin infections, yeast, fungal, mold and parasites. Even treats and prevents.
• Antibacterial – Stops bacteria from taking root and spreading.
• Toothache, which requires root canal, is caused by infection of the nerves in the gum and tooth. Benefits of olive leaf extract include killing the bacteria infecting the nerve.
In my personal experience and anecdotal reports of people I've suggested take olive leaf capsules for toothache (a dozen people or so), every single one reported toothache vanished within a day if not a few hours after starting on olive leaf extract.
Make sure you take product with active Olea Europea at about 10% of the dose for full benefits.
You can enjoy olive leaf tea which lends many of the same benefits of olive leaf extract. However, as potency in olive leaf tea cannot be assured, use tea as a preventive. Bring the big guns in, standardized extracts and capsules, to fight a health condition.
The beneficial parts of olive leaf are water-soluble, so its tea is another way to enjoy its benefits. Simmer for a few minutes then infuse in the hot water.
It’s tastes ok though you may need to get used to it because it's slightly bitter. Just sweeten and consider mixing in some lemon or ginger. You can buy olive leaf already prepped as tea bags or as loose leaves.
Olive leaf capsules
To be sure, various forms of olive leaf extract are beneficial. However, I've personally benefited, and seen others benefit, from taking olive leaf capsules filled with the dried herb. Certainly, tinctures should work just fine but in my experience they are simply not as fast acting for, for example, toothache, as olive leaf capsules.
Be sure to purchase from established manufacturer and that it contains 10% oleuropein. I presently have GNC's brand on my counter but have also been satisfied with Vitamin Shoppe and various other brands.
Safety of olive leaf products
Olive leaf has not been shown to lead to serious side effects though very high doses have led a rare few to experience flu-like symptoms, headache, muscle pain, body ache, fatigue or diarrhea because of detoxification.
If you have concerns about side effects, consult with a qualified professional. You may need to start with a low dose, gradually work up and be sure to drink lots of water throughout the day.
