Using apple cider vinegar for weight loss is controversial with detractors and proponents making somewhat extreme claims. Read on for an objective account on using apple cider vinegar to help lose excess weight.
Fact is that attempting weight loss with apple cider vinegar has some value but needs to be part of a total program. Certainly, eating improperly and not exercising consistently would undo any benefits that any herbal remedies for weight loss could initiate.
As for apple cider vinegar, it was Dr. Jarvis who first and most famously proposed ACV for all kinds of ills and who wrote that people who consumed apple cider vinegar for weight loss would tend to burn fat instead of store it.
However, it is doubtful that any apple cider vinegar diet will result in miraculous weight loss but could lead to some weight loss.
Why ACV may help you lose weight
* Well, it might be the combination of the vinegar’s acidity and the natural pectin that is found in apples. The combination of healthy acidity & pectin may stimulate the metabolism and prepare the body to burn fat.
* Another of the health benefits of apple cider vinegar is that it helps lower cholesterol. Here too, pectin plays a key in reducing blood cholesterol.
Lowering cholesterol, which is composed of fatty acids, may not in itself lead to any real fat loss but the overall benefits that come from lowered cholesterol may set the stage for activities that lead to fat loss.
For example, lowered cholesterol improves cardiovascular health which may result in being able to work out harder and longer. That is a round about way for apple cider vinegar to cause weight loss but, hey, whatever works.
* Some say that apple cider vinegar for weight loss occurs due to the combination of pectin, enzymes, vitamins, and potassium which rev up metabolism helping to burn fat even when at rest.
* Another reason for weight loss with apple cider vinegar is that ACV is a powerful detoxifier & purifier. It is thought to break down fatty, mucous and phlegm deposits in the body.
Breaking down these substances obviously improves the health and function of the vital organs of the body, such as the kidneys, bladder and liver and also sets the stage for weight loss.
* ACV is one of the herbal remedies with general healing properties. For example, it balances the acid/alkaline physical profile which is very important for health and possibly, for weight loss.
* Another point about consuming a little all natural apple cider vinegar, with all of its nutrients, is that it may reduce appetite. Why? Hunger can be a sign that you need nutrients. If you are getting them from whatever source it could suppress appetite.
Studies on apple cider vinegar & losing weight
There isn’t much research on apple cider vinegar and weight loss. No surprise here. Who would fund such studies?
However, a small study in 2005 found that subjects who ate a piece of bread with a small amount of vinegar felt more full and satisfied than those who ate the bread alone.
Why is not clear but it is thought that 1)the vinegar heightened the feeling of fullness & 2)it lowered the glycemic index of carbohydrates eaten at a meal.
If attempting weight loss with apple cider vinegar, make sure you use raw, organic vinegar. Absolutely, do not use the dead, distilled vinegar that is commonly bought in grocery stores.
That is because the natural enzymes, minerals, and nutrients in common vinegar are all destroyed in the distilling process. The vinegar should not be clear. It should contain that cloudy, swirling substance referred to as the “mother."
You can add apple cider vinegar to anything that you would ordinarily add common vinegar or lemon juice to. I like it on baked chicken, fish and Italian style salads.
But it might be better to make a ritual of drinking a cocktail of apple cider vinegar weight loss. Drink it first thing in the morning using 2 teaspoons of raw, organic apple cider vinegar and a sweetener, if you need one. The sweetener should be organic honey, 100% organic maple syrup, molasses or stevia.
Also, especially since you’ll be drinking lots of water, use only filtered water. Why add impurities to your system when you are trying to get rid of them? Buy a good water filter or just go to our sponsor’s website for a high quality, economical water filter...
